世界を飛び回りながら精力的に活躍するベルリン在住のピアニスト福間洸太朗さんにインタビューを行いました。今月２６日にベルリン・フィルハーモニーにて開かれるソロコンサートはすでに完売してしまったとのこと。ですが、２月にはクラヴィアフェスティバル・ベルリンで演奏される予定ですので、ぜひ足を運んでみてください！

I recently interviewed Kotaro Fukuma, a Japanese pianist living in Berlin. He plays piano all over the world and also he will perform with orchestra at the Berliner Philharmonie on 26th December. All tickets for the Berliner Philharmonie concert have been sold out, but he will also play for Klavierfestival Berlin next February. You can check the information of the concert below!

Q:ご出身はどちらですか。現在の拠点は？

Where are you from and where are you based now?

東京出身です。生まれは練馬ですが、２歳ごろから国分寺市というところに住んでいました。高校卒業後はパリに４年間留学し、そのあとはベルリンで６年ほど勉強しました。そのあとはそのままずっとベルリンに住んでいます。

I’m from Tokyo. I was born in Nerima and I had lived in Kokubunji-city since two years old. After graduating high school, I studied music for four years in Paris. And then I came to Berlin to study music and I have lived here since then.

Q: ベルリン・フィルハーモニーで演奏されたことはありますか？

Have you played at the Berliner Philharmonie before?

以前コーラスの伴奏者としてKammermusiksaal（小ホール）で演奏したことがありますが、大ホールでの演奏は、今度の１２月２６日のコンサートが初めてになります。ヨーロッパにある格調高いホールの中でも最高峰のホールの１つがフィルハーモニーの大ホールだと言われているので、とても楽しみにしております。

I have played at “Kammermusiksaal” as an accompanist of chorus. But it will be the first time for me to play at “Großer Saal” on 26th December. It is said “Großer Saal” of the Berliner Philharmonie is one of the best halls in all Europe. I am very exited to play there.

Q: 好きなソナタ、ピアノコンチェルト、室内楽曲をおしえてください。

Which is your favorite piano sonata, piano concerto and chamber music piece?

今一番好きなものとして考えた時に、没後１００年のスクリャービンをあげたいと思います。いろいろな場所で今年弾きましたし、とても魅力を感じている作曲家です。好きなソナタは彼の「ピアノソナタ第3番　嬰へ短調　Op.23」です。（こちらが福間さんの演奏されたスクリャービンのソナタです）

If I can say what I like most now, I would like to say Scriabin, this year is the centennial of his death. I played his piece in many places this year and I am attracted to his music. My favorite sonata is his “Piano Sonata No. 3 in F-sharp minor, Op. 23”. (Here　is a part of the recording of the piece by Mr. Fukuma)

好きなピアノコンチェルトはブラームスの「ピアノ協奏曲第1番　ニ短調　Op.15」です。私が２０歳の時にアメリカのコンクールの本選で弾いて、優勝してプロになることができた思い出深いコンチェルトです。一番大切なコンチェルトとも言えますね。

My memorable concerto is “Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor, Op. 15” by Brahms. When I was 20 years old, I played it at the final of the competition in Cleveland, USA and got the first prize to become a professional pianist. I can say this is the most important concerto for me.

好きな室内楽曲はシューマンの「ピアノ五重奏曲 変ホ長調　Op.44」です。全体的にフレッシュなエネルギーに満ち溢れていて、でも２楽章はかなしくて、そのコントラストや、各楽器との対話も沢山あり、弾いてても聞いてても楽しめる名曲です。

My favorite chamber music is “Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44” by Schumann. The work is full of fresh energy in general, but the second movement is sad. Because of this contrast and the dialogue between instruments, this piece is fun to play and listen to.

Q:食事の時に音楽はききますか？どんな音楽が好きですか？

Do you listen to music when you eat? What is your favorite music?

BGMとしてかけるのは、クラシックじゃないほうがいいんです。クラシックだと聞き入ってしまうので。フランスのシャンソンやジャズ、ラテン系のものなどは好きですね。南米でコンサートをした時に買ってきた音源をかけたりします。これは私がよく聞くチリ音楽です。

I prefer non-classical music as background music. I cannot avoid concentrating, when I hear classical music. I like French chanson, jazz and latin music. Sometimes I play latin music I bought in the South America when I went there for the concerts. For example, this is the Chilean music I often listen to.

Q:ベルリンの好きな場所を３つ教えてください。

What are your three favorite places in Berlin?

好きな場所といえば、ビクトリアパークです。丘があって登るとベルリンが一望できるので、春先の暖かくなってきた頃は必ずいきますね。木々が芽生えてきて、春を感じるので。あとは、ジャンダルメンマルクトも好きです。歴史的な建物に囲まれていて、観光地でもありますが、コンツェルトハウスの夜のコンサートの後にライトアップされたこの場所が好きです。最後に、フィルハーモニーの大ホールの中です。私がとても大きな感動体験を味わったところで、Podiumplaetze（ステージ上に設けられた席）で聞いたアルフレッド・ブレンデルのベートーヴェンの３１番のソナタは素晴らしすぎて感動で席から立ち上がれませんでした。

Victoria Park. We can overlook Berlin from the hill in the park. I always go there in early Spring. Because I feel spring there with new green trees. Also I like Gendarmenmarkt. There are a lot of historical buildings and it’s a touristic place, but I like there when it’s light-up after concert at the Konzerthaus. At last but not least, I wanna say inside of “Großer Saal” of the Berliner Philharmonie, where I was deeply moved. When I listened to Alfred Brendel’s “Piano Sonata No. 31” by Beethoven on Podiumplatz, I couldn’t stand up because it was so moving.
